Mitsubishi the Japanese auto-maker began manufacturing carsin 1917 and their operations in the United States began in 1981. Mitsubishi remain one of the world's largest auto-makers and produce cars such as the well-known Lancer sedan which is very popular in the small car market around the world. In addition to the Lancer the Mitsubishi range includes theGalant sedan, Eclipse coupe, Outlander SUV and Eclipse Spyder the Mitsubishiconvertible which rounds out an affordable range of vehicles in a highly competitive car market.
The Eclipse SpyderMitsubishi convertible is not as powerful as its sporty appearance may make it look and it does not necessarily provide as much power or handle as well as its competitors such as the Chevrolet Camaro Convertible, Mazda Miata and the Ford Mustang Convertible. What the Mitsubishi convertible does provide though is an affordable option for car enthusiasts to purchase an open air driving sports oriented car with an exotic design that provides a comfortable ride with reasonable performance.
The Eclipse Spyder Mitsubishi convertiblehas many features including a fast 19 second powered drop top with a hard shell Tonneau cover, 650-Watt Rockford Fosgate audio system, 4 advanced safety airbags, active stability control, 18" alloy wheels, options for 4 and 6 cylinder engines and a wide selection of additional accessories. The Eclipse SpyderMitsubishi convertible also includes an excellent value 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
The Mitsubishi convertibleis available in 3 Eclipse Spyder variants: the Spyder GS Sport, Spyder SE and Spyder GT (the GT being the highest performance version). The Eclipse Spyder GS Sport starts at $27,999featuring a 4 speed Sportronic automatic transmission and a 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine with 162 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 162 foot pound of torque at 4,000 rpm. Fuel economy is 27 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city with a 17.7 gallon fuel tank. The Eclipse Spyder SE starts at $28,299 featuring a4 speed Sportronic automatic transmission, dark finish 18" alloy wheels, black side mirrors, exterior side decals and the same 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine as the GS Sports with 162 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 162 foot pound of torque at 4,000 rpm. Fuel economy is the same as the GS Sport providing 27 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city.
The third Mitsubishi convertible is the Eclipse Spyder GT, the performance vehicle of the range. The GTstarts at $32,828 and includes the features of the GS Sport but has a 5 speed Sportronic automatic transmission and a significantly more powerful 3.8 liter 6 cylinder engine providing 265 horsepower at 5,750 rpmand 262 foot pound of torque at 4,500 rpm.The more powerful engine provides the best combination with the sporty styling of the Eclipse Spyder. With the increased power and performance the fuel economy of the Eclipse Spyder is slightly compromised though when compared to the other variants and as such provides a reduced 24 mpg on the highway and 17 mpg in the city with the same 17.7 gallon fuel tank.
