France is one of the oldest manufacturers of automobiles but most of us do not regard them as great automobile manufacturers despite popular brands like Peugeot and Renault. Their neighbors, the Germans and the Italians - and the British to an extent - are quite well known for their automotive manufacturing skills. However, things are going to change the moment you start thinking about a coupe; you will start to feel a lot respect for the French because it's the French who introduced the concept of Coupe to the world!
Coupe De Ville, introduced in France, was the first coupes known to man and the concept was inspired from the horse carriages in France with the same name. However, when coupes are brought up in conversation, France is rarely a part of it because none of the leading coupes in the modern world are from the country.
A coupe is essentially a two door sports car or sedan and the seating capacity can be either 2 or 4. What makes the coupe different from a convertible is its hard top that can't be folded down. It's a permanent fixture and in my honest opinion, more practical! Though convertibles, with their open roof, are a lot of fun, but if you don't like people staring at you which is what happens especially in city driving, this type of car may not be for you. A coupe on the other hand gives you the two seater look without the compromise on comfort or privacy either.
Coming back to the topic, there are some coupes that rocked our world and which are better known as American muscle cars! Yes, we're talking about Dodge Challenger, AMC Matador and Ford Mustang here! These coupes, popularly known as the muscle cars were the dream of yesterday's generation and even today, we admire them a lot.
The world is ever changing and coupes around us are a part of this evolution. The leading coupe models also have changed, with the only celebrities from the old generation being the Mustang and Challenger. The leading coupe models today to consider are below.
1. Hyundai Veloster - OK, we're not exactly talking about heritage with a Hyundai but Veloster is a great contender and is affordable for most.
2. Fiat 500 - This Italian masterpiece is a classic example of a coupe that looks unique in its own terms.
3. Mini Cooper Coupe - Again, the original design of Mini was a coupe and the ownership of BMW makes it an even greater car.
4. For Mustang - It goes without saying that Mustang, though known as a muscle car, not a coupe, is quite elegant even today. Dodge Challenger is also a good pick.
5. Nissan 350Z - Nissan put on a great show with their 350Z coupe and the success of this car wasn't expected by anyone.
6. BMW 3 Series - 3 series is probably one of the most successful coupe series in the market and the car is quite elegant.
7. Bentley Continental GT - Bentley is quite luxurious and the GT shows us that a coupe has no limits in creativity.
