German luxury auto manufacturer BMW has been around since 1917, and its coupe models have always been an important part of the company's image concerning extreme attention to quality and detail. Currently, the German auto manufacturer has four coupe models (with several variants and trims available) in its lineup: the 2012 BMW 1 Series and 1 Series M, the 2012 BMW 3-Series Coupe, the 2012 BMW M3 Coupe, and the 2012 BMW 6 S Series Coupe. All of these coupe models are known for their excellent craftsmanship and superior design.
The BMW 1 Series was first launched in 2004 and is the company's smallest sized car. It is also available in convertible and hatchback variants. This coupe shares many technology, hardware, powertrain, chassis, and structural features with the more grandiose BMW 3 Series. The 1 Series debuted as an answer to BMW enthusiasts that wanted a lower point of entry in the market for the brand as the BMW 3-Series began inching its way up in price. The two-door coupe variant was first produced in the summer of 2007, but the first 1 Series was a three-door hatchback. This coupe is produced in the manufacturer's home country of German and has a starting price around $31,200 for the BMW 128i Coupe and around $39,300 for the 135i Coupe. For the 2012 year, the 128i gets a no-extra-charge six-speed automatic transmission, as does the Alpine White paint color. All 3-Series vehicles come with iPod and USB integration features. Both of these vehicles compete with the Chevy Camaro and the Ford Mustang.
The BMW 1 Series M was produced only in the 2011 year, but it is still available from new stock. Like all M models, it features extreme performance added to the luxurious nature of BMW models. It also adds a buffet of advanced technology features. The 1 Series M produces 335-horsepower and comes in around $46,000.
The BMW 3 Series is a compact executive car which has been produced since the 1975 model year and is now in its sixth generation. It comes in coupe, sport sedan, convertible, and station wagon variants. The coupe comes in the following models: the 328i coupe, the 328 xDrive coupe, the 335icoupe, the 335i xDrive coupe, and the 335is coupe, (in order of lowest to highest price, around $37k-$52k). The 3 Series is known for blending excellent handling, good looks, and a roomy interior. The 2012 BMW M3 Series is based on the standard 3 Series, but it has a lot more power. This coupe's pricing starts around $61k, and it produces 414 horsepower. It competes with the Cadillac CTS-V and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.
The BMW 6 Series is the company's grand touring luxury sport line and is based on the platform of the 5 Series. The 5 Series coupe first appeared in 2002 when it replaced the BMW Z3 and Z4. For 2012, its coupe forms include (in order of price) the BMW 640i coupe, the 650i coupe, and the 650i xDrive coupe, and prices range from about $74k-86k. The 6 series vehicles are some of the largest BMW offers. They have a long hood and a sleek, curvy body.
