For the lucky few that will own one of the limited edition (599 total) 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO Coupes produced, they will be pleased to hear that no detail has been overlooked in the creation of this vehicle. The company itself calls this the "most extreme" car it has ever produced, and this is no exaggeration. It is simply the last word in performance, balance, and ridiculously high speeds, topping out at a maximum of 208 miles per hour. A quad-cam 6.0-liter V-12 engine permits the engine to reach 612 horsepower and 448 pound-feet of torque. This is paired up with a standard six-speed manual or an optional single clutch six-speed automatic transmission. Zero to 62 miles per hour in a brisk 3.7 seconds is unreal.
Aluminum body panels permitted this model to shed some weight. In fact, it is about 220 pounds lighter, which makes a huge different. Some say that this is the sports car to end all sports cars, and that it can make good drivers great, and others have noted that marvelous drivers have been able to break world records behind its perfectly appointed wheel.
One would expect that the size, weight, and cargo capacity would slow this sports coupe down, but that is not so. In fact, only a few minor changes differentiate it (making it street legal) from the track-only 599XX. Extensive research on aerodynamics and state-of-the-art computer assisted handling has resulted in a car that exceeds every expectation. The Ferrari 599 GTO Coupe boasts wider side skirts and bumpers, revised spoilers and diffusers, and new underbody channels that work together to add serious downforce.
The exhaust system on the Ferrari 599 GTO Coupe sounds beautiful with six catalytic converters that combine to create an overall 6 to 2 to 1 arrangement. Add this to dual intake resonance tubes and you get eight additional decibels of engine sound inside the cabin. Changes to the suspension of previous models mean handling is ideally balanced.
Safety features include the CST with F1-Trac system, which adds stability and traction control, as well as TPTMS, for monitoring tire pressure and temperature. The 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO Coupe also features dusk sending headlamps, engine immobilizer, four-wheel ABS, electronic brakeforce distribution and an emergency interior trunk release. There are also optional safety features available, including a fire extinguisher, heat insulated windshield and front and rear parking sensors.
