Part 2: Trims & Features

Unlike previous SUVs, the 2012 Ford Explorer SUV comes with third row seats. This creates room for extra passengers. As a matter of fact, the 2012 Ford Explorer SUV can accommodate a maximum of seven adults. The standard engine is a 3.5 L 290 horsepower engine, while there is the option of going for a more efficient 237 horse power turbo charged engine. Both trims come with a six speed automatic transmission, which can either be availed in rear or all wheel drive. Just like all the other SUV models, the 2012 Ford Explorer SUV comes in three trim levels and are the limited, XLT and the base trim. The base trim is well equipped with modern technology but as you move up the list, there are some additional features that make the car more luxurious. Some of the features that are available in the upper trims include leather seats on all the seats in the car, voice command system, keyless ignition, premium audio system, navigation system and a rear set DVD system.

There are some more features that are optional in the higher trim levels and these features include a parallel parking system, collision and blind spot warning system, stability control and multiple air bags. The air bags make the 2012 Ford Explorer SUV one of the safest SUVs in the market and to add to that, it received 4 out of 5 stars for overall crash protection. The Explorer didn't disappoint in roof strength , frontal-offset and side impact test earning a rating of "good"

When compared to its predecessor, the latest 2012 Ford Explorer SUV is far more superior for its improved cabin space and the materials used in the interior nothing less than classy and elegant, making it a very comfortable car to drive. The Ford Explorer is available in a number of exterior color variants to include white platinum, ruby red, ingot silver, deep impact blue, green gem, ginger ale, sterling grey, Kodiak brown, tuxedo black and Oxford white. Some people claim that the 2012 Ford Explorer SUV is the best SUV in the market today. To a point, that is true given the fact that it is a fully loaded SUV that has some extra luxury features as well as a high tech sync system. The bottom line is that the 2012 Ford Explorer SUV is a great car since its exterior and interior design is enough to make it a competitive car in the market. If you have a large family or you just want to take a trip across the country, then the 2012 Ford Explorer SUV is an astute choice.
