Part 1: Introduction

When Jeep designed the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, they needed to find a way to improve upon the standard Wrangler while still keeping the same aspect. Jeep was able to give more power and better options the Wrangler Unlimited. They didn't upgrade everything on the Wrangler Unlimited though, so there are some major positives and negatives for this SUV. Jeep gave the Unlimited a bigger gas tank, more space in the back and a bigger backseat area, and four doors instead of two, with air conditioning, and a 60/40 split folding rear seat.

When taken for a test drive, the Unlimited went from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 8.8 seconds. The V6 engine producing 285 horsepower provides a fuel economy for the Unlimited that is estimated at an average of around 17 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway. Jeep also gave the Unlimited more available space. The back seat now has room for three passengers and the extra set of doors allows for easier access to the back seat instead of trying to squeeze past the front seats. The Unlimited's expanded cargo space allows for 86 cubic feet of cargo space now when the second row seats are folded down.

When taken off road, the Wrangler Unlimited is not quite maneuverable on those tighter trails as Wrangler's smaller standard model. But, with the Unlimited being more roomier, you are able to carry more gear. When taken out on the road, the Wrangler Unlimited drives has more stability when going around corners and driving along the highway.

Jeep did improve on the interior from previous years. They gave the new Wrangler Unlimited a cabin full of new design that has a better, more natural look. Jeep also didn't think clearly when designing the soft top for the Wrangler as it is a major puzzle and pain to operate. The soft top is also considered to be a huge advertisement for potential thieves that might come across this SUV. For when you want to ride in convertible style in the Wrangler, the cargo comes with cargo tie downs to secure your things so as they won't fall or fly out while driving. Also, with any soft top SUV, carrying cargo can be a very risky business as only the center console and glove box are capable of being locked. The best option here would be to go with the optional hard top that has removable T-top-style panels for maximum security

Jeep provides several options and packages for the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. These include a Power Convenience package which adds power door locks and windows, keyless entry, and heated power mirrors. The Connectivity Group package gives the Unlimited Bluetooth capabilities, and iPod/USB audio interface, a new style steering wheel that is wrapped in leather, an upgraded trip computer. Some of the extra options available for the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited include air-conditioning, satellite radio, 17 inch alloy wheels, and a multi-piece removable hardtop with a rear defroster and wiper.
