The Mazda Speed 3 sedan is available in one trim level. This is known as the iSport. Some of the standard items to use here include 18 inch wheels, a well controlled slip differential, a variety of full power accessories, a keyless entry control system, cruise control, a dual-zone climate control system, a driver's seat with an adjustable height, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with a leather wrapping, an adjustable front center armrest, a trip computer, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a Bose premium Center-point surround stereo system alongside a CD player, an auxiliary MP3 jack and steering wheel audio controls.
The Mazda Speed 3 Technology package includes automatic and bi-xenon headlights that change with light, a blind spot identification system, windshield wipers that respond to rain, a keyless ignition and entry key fob, SIRIUS satellite radio and a navigation system with a convenient and easy to read display screen and even some steering wheel touch controls. An iPod interface and a 6 CD changer are available as dealer packages installed on the lot.
The interior is first-class with lots of other available amenities. The Multi-Information Display located at the windshield has readouts that show off vehicle information. It also has a full climate control system, a series of radio controls with support for presets and also a convenient navigation computer. A newly engineered series of control buttons located on the wheel can control these functions. The readout is simple to use, easy to see while the controls on the steering wheel are laid out carefully. The other controls are mounted high on the dash's center area, and are also easy to see and use.
Safety features that come standard on the Mazda Speed 3 sedan include a strong series of airbags around the vehicle, including some curtain side airbags, additional active front head restraints, a tire-pressure monitoring system and also some anti-lock brakes that use an assisting feature and even a special brake force distribution. There are also traction control and a electronic stability control systems that are standard on the car.
Mazda has been known to say that every vehicle it builds has the soul of a sports car. The Mazda Speed 3 sedan may handle well, but it is no sports car. While the handling is firm and turns are tight enough, there is some leaning at good speed and the engines aren't strong enough for real sporty style take offs. The steering is precisely tuned and the suspension leaves the driver feeling the road through the wheel, but it has the feel of a luxury sedan more than a sportier coupe. The suspension works with a series of comfortable controls. The large ruts may feel rough though. This is especially the case with 17-inch wheels.
