Even after the global recession, the market for super luxury sports cars didn't fade. A lot of manufacturers even came out with luxury car offerings equipped with the latest top of the line systems and furnishings. The Mercedes-Benz company didn't fall short on this genre when it introduced the 2012 SL-Class SL550 Roadster Coupe. Based on reviews of previous models of the SL-class, this car has already been performing well. They only made the 2012 SL-Class SL550 Roadster Coupe better with newer installations and enhancements.
The Mercedes-Benz of 2012 SL-Class SL550 Roadster Coupe is comparable to 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera and the 2012 Nissan GT-R as mentioned in many reviews online. It even rivaled its sister the Mercedes-Benz CL-class in many reviews. While almost every level of the SL550 Roadster is on par with the CL-class models, reviews on the latter showed more favored reaction in terms of performance and handling. When it comes to pricing, the 2012 SL550 Roadster starts at $105,500 which is about $9,000 cheaper than the CL-class cars. There are mixed reviews when it comes to the design and appearance of the SL versus the CL. Our personal review, however, favor the SL550 as we feel it is a sexier and more suave-looking car. Both luxury car run on a V8 5.5liter engine but considering the CL is an all-wheel drive and the SL only a rear-wheel drive, performance of the first one is slightly better. Passenger capacity was also a topic in the reviews of both the SL550 and other CL-class cars. The Roadster can only be occupied by two people while the CL doubles that capacity. When it comes to reviews of safety features, the SL550 is leading. The Roadster has more safety installations compared to some of the CL-class models. Crash tests and reviews made by various safety regulating bodies also favored the SL550 than the CL-class models.
Although slightly inferior to the Mercedes-Benz CL-class, we feel that the SL-class SL550 Roadster is still better value for your money based on our reviews. The difference in price between the two classes is surely a thing to consider before purchasing. It is now a matter of what type of car you truly want. While the CL-class got better reviews, the SL-class is not really far behind. Either way, both cars seemingly lead the pack alongside the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera when it comes to luxury sports car.
