The 5008 is a compact multi - purpose vehicle (MPV) wagon first introduced by Peugeot in the summer of 2009. The 5008 is one in a long line of compact MPVs that Peugeot have offered over the years, with possibly the first being the seven seater version of their classic 504 in the mid seventies, that was either ahead of its time or too cramped to ever be considered a seven seater in real terms. The first seven seater MPV truly worthy of the title offered by Peugeot was their 806 launched in 1995, to be rapidly upgraded and re-named the 807 in 2003. The 807 stayed in production until 2009 gradually being replaced after the 5008 made its appearance.
The 2012 Peugeot 5008 Wagon comes in a five door hatchback form and departs quite a bit in its external appearance from many of the second millennium models that the French Auto giant currently has on their books, with a rounder, more solid and conservative line to it. Most of the leading trade reviews give the 5008 MPV pass marks for its levels of comfort and its simple good looks, something that is not always a foregone conclusion.
The 5008 wagon can be specified with a choice of either two petrol engines or four diesel powered versions, all from the well tested Peugeot stable.
The starting level petrol engine is a 1.4 liter 97 horsepower, followed by a 1.6 liter 180 horsepower. The diesel engines start their climb with a 1.6 liter 91 horsepower engine, or for more power a 1.6 liter 161 horsepower. The other diesel engines are both 2.0 liter, either generating 148 horsepower or 161 horsepower. All of the 5008's engines, petrol or diesel, come paired with six speed manual transmission as standard.
To ensure as smooth a ride as possible Peugeot have fitted the 5008 MPV Wagon Hatchback with standard Macpherson strut front suspension while opting for torsion beam suspension for the rear, designed to provide a sufficient balance between the two for maximum road holding and comfortable ride.
when it comes to providing comfort for driver and passengers there are few better than Peugeot and this is certainly the case with the 5008 MPV. At 157.5 inches long by 74 inches wide by 57.5inches tall, this is one roomy wagon that will seat three adult passengers with comfort on the second row bench, while fitting in two more on the third row bench. Third row passengers may find things a little tight as there is a definite shortage of leg room for anyone over five foot tall.
where the 5008 really comes into its own is its flexible seating and cargo storage capabilities. With all three rows in place the 5008 will still easily provide 15 cubic feet of storage. Folding the back row flat will free up another 29 cube and fold the second row out of site and a massive 77 cubic feet of storage space is available. And if all that talk of folding benches sounds like a daunting task it can all carried out by simply pressing the right button.
