Porsche, a German luxury automaker, has always produced amazing sleek and powerful sports cars, but the Porsche Boxster S Black Edition is on a completely different level. Porsche asserts that the Black Edition isn't really about the color black at all- it's more about the absence of all color and light. It's about being sleek, stealthy and secretive in the best way possible. Compare it to a woman's best friend: the "little black dress." It showcases what Porsche has always been known for: the power of attraction. The Porsche black Edition coupe is really the Porsche 911 Black Edition's closest rival- as you won't find this degree of sleek elegance in any other models on the market.
The coolest part of the Black Edition? Porsche claims it saves drivers about $3-thousand over a traditional Porsche Boxster with the same equipment (including a Bose audio system, bi-xenon headlights, a multimedia package featuring a navigation system, a convenience package, and a design package). The Black Edition also comes with the storied and respected history of the standard Porsche Boxster, which first appeared in late 1996 and was called the Boxster 986. This Boxster was later followed by a Boxster S variant in 2000, styling upgrades to both in 2003, and a new generation of Boxsters (the Boxster 987) by 2005. More powerful than its predecessor and featuring unique styling inspired by the Porsche Carrera GT, the type 987 has been deemed incredible by all of its drivers. The Boxster was also the first roadster built by Porsche since the iconic 550 Spyder. In 2009, the Boxster received several cosmetic and performance upgrades. The Boxster name references the word "boxer," which is seen in the coupe's "boxer" engine and is combined with the word "roadster" (referencing the car's convertible top and 2-seat capacity). A 2013 Porsche Boxster will soon be available, but a Black Edition coupe's reappearance is still unknown.
For 2012, the Porsche Boxster S Black Edition coupe has a starting MSRP around $65-thousand, which we deem to be very reasonable after review. The Boxster S coupe is fitted with outstanding style inside and out, and though the standard Boxster is powerful enough for most drivers, after review, we believe the S variant to be the best pairing of style and performance. So, it's no surprise that upping the S's appearance with the Black Edition is even more satisfying. Overall, our review shows that the 2012 Porsche Boxster features impressive handling, a reasonable price, and an extremely unique and sexy appearance. A unique vehicle with a powerful, mysterious personality, the Boxster S Black Edition is like nothing you've ever seen.
