The 2012 Porsche Cayman comes in several different variants, including the base trim, the S trim, the R trim, and the S Black Edition trim. For this review, the sporty S trim will predominantly discussed. The Cayman S coupe has a (very reasonable) starting MSRP of $62,100- though that price can rise a good bit with added options. The 2012 Porsche Cayman coupe comes with excellent handling and steering capabilities. The S has a very special direct fuel injection (DFI) system featuring millisecond precision. It's also constructed with extremely lightweight materials and a variety of engineering advancements like VarioCam Plus, which ups torque while in lower speed ranges and ups power output in high speed ranges. Injection and ignition are controlled by the engine electronics, and the driver controls engine power and throaty sound using the tremendously sensitive electronic accelerator pedal. The Cayman S coupe's power is admirable. With a 6-speed manual transmission (with OverDrive) standard and a specialty seven-speed available, there's plenty of heft. The 3.4-liter H-6 premium engine that produces 320 horsepower is also indicative of this point.
Standard features, such as cruise control, air conditioning, Sport leather seating, power heated mirrors, leather surfaces, and speed sensitive audio control are abundant, though perhaps less than one would expect from a luxury coupe. Optional features are also exceptional, though they can add up to be pricey. These include: a Convenience package, an Infotainment package (with or without a Bose audio upgrade), and a Design and Design Sport package. These packages include such features as a navigation system, a 7-speaker audio system, aerodynamic kits, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, and bigger wheels and tires. A Sport Chrono package is also available. This package adds PDK, launch control, adjustable driver settings, and a lap timer. There are also several other unique customizations for the interior, exterior, and, well, basically any surface of the vehicle the driver would like to modify. In short, it's highly customizable.
