Volvo Sedan Reviews

Volvo Sedans have been around for almost 90 years with the first one being produced in 1927, the Volvo PV4 door Saloon. The Volvo Sedan range is second only in fame to its wagon range and both of which are very popular with car enthusiasts, mostly for its exceptional durability, safety and reliability that are the trademarks of Volvo. The exceptional safety record for Volvo cars did come at a cost though with the cars earning the nickname of 'The Brick' in the US due to the somewhat square edged design of the earlier models. A Volvo Sedan is actually in the Guinness Book of World Records with one car having travelled over 2.8 million miles with the same owner by 1966.

The Sedan is the workhorse of cars and also usually the largest overall revenue generator for most car manufacturers. Certainly, the Volvo Sedan is the mainstay of Volvo's revenues. A Sedan is the go to car for most couples and families as it provides decent fuel economy with a reasonable amount of room without sacrificing either back seat comfort or performance. There are two different models of Volvo Sedans on the market currently attempting to cover the upper budget range through to the lower luxury area of the market. As a result of the crowded Sedan market and the large range of Volvo Sedan models, they face stiff competition from almost every auto manufacturer including the Ford Focus, Mazda 3, Kia Optima, Volkswagen Passat, Mercedes Benz C Class, Hyundai Genesis, Jaguar XF and the Audi A6.

At the lower end of the Volvo Sedan range is the Volvo S40 with two trims. The first is the Volvo S40 T5 Sedan which starts at just under $28,000 and comes with a 2.5 liter turbo charged 5 cylinder engine producing 227 horsepower at 5,000rpm and 236 foot pound of torque at 1,500rpm. Volvo markets its Sedans in a similar way to how it markets its SUVs - by providing luxury appointments for a lower than luxury price, and combined with the reliability and durability, it makes its cars somewhat unique within their class. The Volvo S40 T5 Sedan manages a reasonable 21mpg in the city and 30mpg on the highway. At the upper end of the S40 range is the Volvo S40 R Design Sedan with a starting price tag of $31,150 with exactly the same engine and performance but more luxury extras included as standard.

The second model of Volvo Sedan is the S60 with 3 different trims with the lowest model the Volvo S60 T5 starting at just over $31,000 with a 2.5 liter turbo charged engine but producing 250 horsepower and 266 foot pound of torque with a lower fuel economy of 20mpg in the city and 30mpg on highways. The premium trim is the Volvo S60 R Design at $43,000 which has a 3 liter engine giving 325 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and 354 foot pound of torque at 3,000rpm.
