Part 2: Trims & Features

Compared to the exterior of the Suzuki SX4 Crossover, the interior of the vehicle could easily be described as almost austere but extremely practical. A lot of thought and planning have obviously gone into making the Suzuki SX4 Crossover's interior ergonomically sound as well as aesthetic.

The Suzuki SX4 Crossover comes in three sub varieties- Base, Premium, and Tech Value. Standard features running through all varieties include roof rails, 16-inch alloy wheels holding P205/60R16 all-season tires. The Premium comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and probably more significant, continuously variable transmission (CVT) although without paddle shifters.

The Tech Value Package comes with fog lamps, a GPS navigation system and paddles for the CVT although, for reasons that have not been explained in any reviews, Suzuki have decided to take off the roof rails in the Tech Value specification.

Suzuki's i-AWD all-wheel drive system is standard in the SX4 Crossover's sub varieties. The i-AWD can be simply operated in three modes, through a switch mounted on the console. When in two wheel drive, the Crossover comes into its own on dry roads providing a very smooth ride and maximum fuel economy. When the SX4 Crossover is switched into All Wheel Drive (AWD) the changes made in the distribution ratio of drive power to the rear wheels will make for increased traction in slightly challenging conditions. The third and final option, AWD Lock mode, should only be used to aid traction in totally slippery conditions such as ice, mud and snow. If and when road conditions improve during a journey, and the Crossover SX4 succeeds in reaching 36 mph while in AWD Lock mode, the system is tuned to automatically switch the Suzuki SX4 Crossover back to AWD Auto mode.

Safety features abound on the Suzuki SX4 Crossover starting from its eight airbags distributed with two in the front dashboard, two at the side for the driver and front seat passenger as well as side curtain airbags, two at the top in case of a rollover rounded off by rear seats side airbags. The Suzuki SX4 Crossover comes with LATCH child seat anchors as standard.

The Suzuki SX4 Crossover fits very well into its niche as a compact and highly versatile SUV hatchback, equally comfortable in the city and on the highway, as well as on some fairly testing conditions. Reviews consistently show the SX4 Crossover leading the way for value as a lightweight all-weather capable vehicle, virtually in a class of its own as far as performance, comfort, cargo carrying capability and fuel economy.
